He drove down from somewhere on the last summer day
By way of Costa Rica to the USA
He could find his grace when he met a wave
Nothing in the world could keep him away
An artist with his board, where the water forms fast
Took him for a ride, it could never last
He could move time to get to the curl
Changing the game, changing the world
Underneath, there's a guy in a grey suit
Great white supreme's gonna' get you
He had a sweet love at the waters edge
Wearing a ring where he found the ledge
Forty feet away... a big dark splash
The blood ran out in a flash
THE GREAT WHITE SUPREME is an entity far worse than it sounds. The violent mysteries of fate lurk in the unseen beneath us. Imagine a perfect day as the Summer is ending. A young man not even in the prime intersects with nature in its wildest predatorial form, perishing from an attack by a Great White Shark only yards from shore. Nature easily delivers astonishing examples of sudden and final reversal in fortune. It happens when you're doing what you enjoy most - surfing on a bright sunny afternoon with your buddies and with it all ahead of you. It's hard to go for a long dip into any ocean now, not knowing what's there. Some like to say the creature is just making a mistake, as if that somehow makes it acceptable, and gives us another clean slate. We think that this is rare. We see survival in percentages. How does the shark see it?
The water turned crimson, everybody ran
No cellular reception, no help at hand
It was over in a minute when they dragged him on the sand
That's how it all ended for a fine man
Underneath, there's a guy in a grey suit
The great white supreme's gonna' get you
Two weeks later, they paddled out to where he died
A sacred circle, with the help of the tide
They said "the ocean's ours...this just can't happen!"
But the guy in the suit though, he's just laughin'
Underneath there's a guy in a grey suit
Great white supreme's gonna' get you
