We once swam
In deep cold water
In the spring of our lives
Rollin’ along
Never belonged
But we certainly tried
Love in those days
Arrived with lightning
Thought I was losing my mind
Out on the curve you lost that child
And you knew God was blind
And I would dream of long flights
To anywhere that seemed right
To a land where you might...
Never know
The time we woke
The old brook was gone
Vanished without any good
Where did it go, what can you do?
Somewhere in the woods
Under that bridge
Lost in shadow
There’s a mystery show
They’ll be a time
When you’re thinking of my heart
It’s in the water
It’s in the river
It’s in the love we know

OUT ON THE CURVE is full of memories of an earlier time in my hometown in Upstate New York. There was a very pretty girl that I secretly admired who fell for the first boy who ever gave her any attention, and she quickly became pregnant. Nine months in and at the moment of going into labor, she made the choice to drive herself several miles to the maternity hospital. Within fifty yards of the entrance, she blacked out on the curved driveway, and went smack into a tree. The baby did not survive the accident. No one ever talked about it. Maybe nobody ever talked about anything.
