You towed a seesaw
Sun to the west
With your silver bird
A heart beyond the rest
You knew it wasn’t over
You knew it wasn’t true
There’s so many double rainbows
I don’t know what to do
Stars are falling
Stars are falling
Stars are falling
Far away…away
I called this lady three years to the day
Sonny boy went out in a ball of flame
Driving down that highway, racing again
Then it flipped him out to an infrared end
Stars are falling
Stars are falling
Stars are falling
Far away…away
We hit the rush hour as the icecaps fade
Turning up the volume with nothing to say
Staring into laptops and HULU TV
Cramming into nothing but an angry sea
Stars are falling
Stars are falling
Stars are falling
Far away…away
Stars are falling

Symbolism abounds in STARS ARE FALLING, but this is really a song about automobiles. It’s about driving towards what is hopeful, perhaps even an authentic adventure or a new life. There’s also the flip side of a sudden tragic end, or even the sheer boredom of being stuck somewhere with nothing but you and the radio. Of course, time and distance keeps on happening, and the miles are adding up. We seem to spend so much of our life in cars. We remember every one we ever owned, and we’re always thinking about another.
