You know now what I need
Sandstone
Way down that lost hot river
That no one can see
My canyon of desolation
It's silent and green
A shrine assigned for those who enter
Your soul, without the scene
After all you floated through
You think you would have learned
Going solo is not so bad, boy
Expect her to return
To the canyon of desolation
It's silent and green
A shrine assigned for those who enter
Your soul, without the scene
A good friend went down last week
Her love had run aground
There really isn't much to say
Head in the sky, feet on the ground
You know now what I need
Sandstone
Way down that lost hot river
That no one can see
It's the canyon of desolation
It's silent and green
A shrine assigned for those who enter
Your soul, without the scene
You know now what I need
Sandstone
Way down that lost hot river
That no one can see
My canyon of desolation
It's silent and green
A shrine assigned for those who enter
Your soul, without the scene
You know now what I mean
Sandstone
Way down that lost hot river
That no one can see

LOST HOT RIVER, the final song, was written following rafting trips through Desolation Canyon on the Green River, and the Colorado River in Utah. The song is a take on the lifestyle of river guides. It's a metaphorical treatment of the balance between human independence and personal isolation, employing the beauty and starkness of the rivers of the Colorado Plateau as a challenging backdrop full of emotional drawbacks. What weakens you makes you stronger it seems. You know what's real and it's obtainable, but it's way down there, on some river that you have to commit to. Along the way are all the peaks, the amplitudes, and the frequencies. The human condition is to crave them, as well as to avoid them.
